DANCER, MODEL, AMBASSADOR
Mikayla Holmgren is an inspiring young woman who is a dancer, model, and Best Buddies Ambassador who has not let having Down syndrome stop her from achieving her dreams. She is the first person with Down syndrome to compete in any Miss USA state pageant and has walked away with several awards, most recently the Miss Congeniality Award. Her goal is to raise awareness for those with special needs and show them that anything is possible.

Do you have a ritual?
I need my coffee first thing in the morning! There is also the fact that I need to watch every Hallmark movie. My dad records them and we watch them together. But sometimes he falls asleep.
Also, dance. Dancing is one of my biggest passions. I love to choreograph dances that I take to competitions. You can always find me in my dance studio, my bedroom, and even in my backyard (if it is warm enough) creating dances. I found my love for dance when I was 6-years-old. I have danced on competition teams, high school and college teams, and at various non-profit events.
What does success mean to you?
For me, to succeed means I am showing the world what I am capable of... to show others that I am so much more than my diagnosis. That you can't put everyone in the same box. That we all have different abilities and skills. That I am changing the way others perceive those with
