Erik Bostrom, a family medicine doctor in rural Minnesota, is putting his years of practice stitching skin to use by stitching a custom blanket for each baby he helps deliver. An avid outdoorsman and woodworker, he taught himself how to sew and embroider so he could give his patients a heartfelt and handmade gift that they will get to cherish for a lifetime.
What's your mission?
I'm a physician and I make a customized baby blanket for every baby I deliver. I embroider the name, date of birth, weight, and length on the blankets. Delivering babies is a unique part of medicine as there is a new life entering the world. I make these blankets as a keepsake for the families to remember the special moment.
What tool, object, or ritual could you not live without?
I could not live without my Bible. It's my go-to book for encouragement, advice, and wisdom. As far as worldly possessions go, I get a lot of use out of my Husqvarna chainsaw and Husqvarna sewing machine.
